Vertigo treatment aims to alleviate symptoms of dizziness, spinning sensations, and imbalance caused by vestibular disorders. The approach depends on the underlying cause of vertigo. For benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV), the most common type, specific maneuvers like the Epley or Semont maneuvers can reposition displaced inner ear crystals to relieve symptoms. Vestibular rehabilitation therapy involves exercises to improve balance and reduce dizziness by promoting central nervous system compensation. Medications such as antihistamines, benzodiazepines, or antiemetics may be prescribed to manage symptoms or underlying conditions like Meniere's disease or vestibular neuritis. In some cases, corticosteroids or surgery may be necessary, especially for vestibular schwannoma or other structural abnormalities.
